Merry Christmas and new item set tease!

Just wanted to update the blog and say, yes another item set is in the works (though this one will take a while to get done due to a bucket load of Kingdom Death freelance I am currently working on.)

There are two surprises with this item set!

1: It is for a male character!
2: I'm collaborating with the very talented Danidem, who concepeted the Rider of the Storm; the polycount contest winner!

Lina textures are done!

Woo finally worked out the textures for this bad girl. Wow it was pretty tough to figure out the coins and charms, but they should look better with the metal mask applied in the shader.

Shout out to Greed, my mate from steam who encouraged me to put something on the ends of the ribbons :3

Going to move onto the rigging tomorrow and then the LODs and then the masks :D

Super excited and happy once of my sets made it! I would have been happy with them just getting added to the game, some snoopers on the latest patch contents found out in advance.

Lina item set update: Low poly bakes done!

Well I finally got around to doing the retopo and bakes today. It was interesting trying to figure out the best way to do the head band as I wasn't sure I would have the tri's to pull it off. But I was able to put most of the charms on planes to hang off her head. Which looks much better than flattening them onto her headband.

I also discovered I had a few hundred polys spare on the neck, which I gladly took and made her up a nice matching necklace of charms.

Here is a shot of the set in the max veiwport using the low poly and basic diffuse (bent normal green channel and the AO) and the normal map. I'm using Xoliuls shader 2.0 to get it looking shiny and nice :D

Tomorrow I'll bake out her gradient map and point light map then start slapping some base colours down.

I will try to remember to stream my process. I've been a bit slack lately on that. :<

Lina Highpoly Finished!

Alright! I finally finished my highpoly for Lina! Next set I do will not have any crazy cloth and hair like this. Nope! So sick of sculpting that hahah!

Adjusted some things from the original block out. Gave her hair more volume and tinkered with the size of the ribbons.

Okay the heat is insane and I haven't been able to work on this as fast as I'd like, but I've noodled the concept around and I feel better about this one than the last. Nice interesting silhouette, hopefully doesn't look too much like death prophet haha!

Chipping away at a Lina item set

So comp's ended, I'm going to get back into my work routine, but I still want to make more DOTA2 items. I've been tossing this eastern divine set for Lina around in the back of my head for a while now and wanted to have a pop at it.

What you see now is a very very basic blockout and sketch. The hair is going to be the biggest issue for me I think.

Beads and ribbons will be a strong motif in this design. I'm basing the head piece off an Indian beaded head thing I got for my birthday from my sister yeaaars ago. I want to continue that for her 'belt' and on her hands too.
